V0.108 · DAILY CHIMP TEST

Daily Chimp Test

Play one date-stable eight-board number-order spatial-memory challenge with local history and a specialist streak separate from Today’s 6.

One date-stable eight-board challenge

Daily Chimp uses the date as its deterministic key and creates exactly eight boards. The spans are 5 through 12, shuffled into a date-stable order. Everyone opening the same date in the same release receives the same board plan without a server puzzle database. The Daily specialist is separate from the platform’s frozen Today’s 6 rotation, so finishing it changes only Chimp Test history and its specialist streak.

How the daily boards behave

Each board uses the same 6×6 spatial layout contract as Practice. Numbered cells are unique and contain 1 through that board’s span exactly once. The first correct selection hides the remaining labels. You continue in ascending order from memory. The Daily run proceeds through all eight boards, recording perfect clears and strikes instead of ending the entire challenge after one miss.

What is saved locally

After completion the browser stores the date, completion state, board count, perfect-board count, best span, strikes and local score under the Chimp specialist statistics. Reopening the same date restores the completed history and streak state. This storage is browser-local. No account is required, and there is no remote leaderboard pretending that local measurements are globally normalized.

Why Daily Chimp is outside Today’s 6

Today’s 6 is a deliberately frozen rotating set built from the original source games. Specialist games added later—including advanced logic games, Reaction Time, Aim Trainer, Dual N-Back, Stroop and Chimp Test—keep their own Daily histories. That containment protects the published 2026 Today’s 6 sequence while still allowing each specialist to offer a date-stable replayable challenge.

Daily score interpretation

The local Daily score combines how many of the eight boards were perfect with the highest span encountered and subtracts a small strike penalty. It is a product score for this task, not a standardized cognitive score. The page deliberately avoids population percentiles, IQ mappings, medical cutoffs or claims that a single Daily result measures general memory ability.

Replaying another date

The Daily interface provides previous and next date navigation, with future dates blocked. A prior date reproduces its original deterministic eight-board plan. This makes the archive useful for practice and verification without requiring a puzzle service. Because each date is generated from a stable key, the independent verifier can sweep a full year and confirm that every board remains valid and deterministic.

Device and attention effects

A phone may compress the 6×6 board while a desktop gives each square more visual separation. Touch and mouse input also differ. Distraction during the short encoding phase can matter. For that reason, compare your own Daily results cautiously and under similar conditions. If the page loses focus during an active run, the run is invalidated rather than silently recording an interrupted timing or memory attempt.

The familiar chimp name

The label identifies the task format, not a ranking claim. This site does not tell a player that reaching a particular span makes them better or worse than an animal, and it does not convert the result into intelligence. The challenge is simply to remember an ordered set of spatial locations after the labels disappear.

Daily versus Fixed Span practice

Daily is good when you want one stable course for a date. Fixed Span is better when you want repeated work at one chosen load. If a Daily board at span 11 is difficult, you can return to Practice, select Fixed Span 10 or 11, generate Fresh seeded courses and build consistency without changing the Daily record.

Independent verification

The project verifier generates thousands of seeded boards across all four modes, checks cell uniqueness and numerical order, checks hide-mode contracts and confirms deterministic reproduction. It also checks every date in the target Daily year. Browser QA separately clicks the real rendered cells to ensure that the hide behavior, strikes, migration and Daily completion work in Chromium rather than existing only as data-level assumptions.

No thin daily variants

There is one Daily Chimp landing because “daily chimp test” is a distinct use intent. We do not create separate pages for daily span 5, daily span 6, score bands, phone versus desktop, individual dates or seeds. The date navigator and mode controls belong in the real game, not in a family of near-duplicate search pages.

Local-first by design

The complete Daily course, state transition logic and history live in the downloaded app. That keeps operating cost at zero and makes the deterministic contract easy to audit. The production launch remains disabled during this development stage: pages are public and indexable, the sitemap is absent and robots.txt blocks crawling until an explicit launch decision is made.

Eight boards instead of one peak attempt

The Daily format deliberately uses eight boards because one unusually easy or difficult arrangement can distort a single-board impression. A complete Daily run samples several loads from span 5 through span 12. The order changes deterministically with the date, while the set of spans stays fixed. That means the challenge has enough variety to reward sustained spatial recall without pretending to be a laboratory battery. A strike on one board does not erase the entire day; the next board still appears, so the final record shows both perfect clears and mistakes.

Why the board stays 6×6

The Daily challenge keeps the same 36-position geometry as every Practice mode. Expanding or shrinking the grid by difficulty would mix two variables: how many locations you must remember and how densely those locations are packed. Holding the 6×6 board constant makes span the main load variable and keeps replayed dates visually comparable. It also lets the same independently verified board generator serve Practice and Daily without a second data source or hidden server-side transformation.

History is completion history, not a leaderboard

The local Daily history answers practical questions: Did you finish this date? How many boards were perfect? What was the largest span in the eight-board plan? How many strikes occurred? What is your specialist streak? It does not answer how you rank against strangers because this project has no population sample, device calibration or anti-cheat system that would justify such a claim. Keeping the history literal avoids converting a simple browser task into a fake normative test.

Use Practice when you want controlled repetition

If a Daily run exposes a weak point, the best follow-up is not to reload the same date repeatedly and overwrite the result. Open Fixed Span in Practice, choose a nearby load and use Fresh Practice to generate new deterministic boards. That preserves the Daily record while giving you repeated exposure at one level. Classic Ladder is better for finding a current peak, Flash changes the encoding window, and Endurance emphasizes consistency across more boards. Daily remains the once-per-date specialist checkpoint.
