Daily Code Breaker

Solve one shared four-slot code for the calendar date. The puzzle is generated deterministically in the browser, uses the same exact feedback rules as Practice, and keeps its own local history and streak without changing Today’s 6.

One deterministic puzzle per date

The Daily mode uses the Standard ruleset: four ordered slots, six possible symbols, repeated symbols allowed and ten guesses. Instead of asking a server for a puzzle, the browser combines the calendar date with a fixed deterministic generator. Opening the same date again produces the same hidden sequence. Two fresh browser contexts therefore receive the same code for that date without requiring an account, API request or remote database.

The date identity is separate from the platform’s Today’s 6. Daily Code Breaker is a specialist habit, not a seventh scoring slot. Solving it writes only to the Code Breaker daily history and streak. It does not insert a result into the main Today’s 6 day object, does not alter the frozen 2026 rotation, and does not change the 6,000-point Daily Score.

How the feedback works

After each complete guess, the game reports Exact and Color counts. Exact means a symbol is correct and in the same position. Color means the symbol exists somewhere in the secret but is in a different position. The markers are intentionally unordered. If a row reports two Exact and one Color, you know that exactly three positions in the guess use symbols from the secret, but the Color marker does not tell you which of the remaining guessed positions owns that credit.

Repeated symbols are counted with occurrence limits. Exact matches are removed first, then the remaining symbol counts are compared. If your guess includes three copies of a symbol but the unmatched part of the secret contains only one copy, you receive at most one Color match for that symbol. This prevents duplicate symbols from being over-counted and keeps the logical constraints internally consistent.

Why the Daily mode uses Standard

A daily puzzle should be recognizable and comparable from day to day. Standard keeps the classic four-slot structure while allowing repeated symbols, giving 1,296 possible secrets before clues. Easy is useful for learning because it forbids repeats; Hard and Expert expand to five slots and much larger spaces. Those modes remain available in Unlimited Practice, while the Daily stays on one stable rule contract so a five-guess solve today means the same kind of task as a five-guess solve tomorrow.

Clean versus Assisted daily solves

You can solve the Daily entirely unaided or use the optional Candidate Lens, Hint or Undo controls. Candidate Lens exact-filters every secret that still matches the submitted feedback. Hint chooses a consistent, information-focused candidate and places it in the current row. Undo removes a feedback row after you have already seen its clue. All three are valuable learning tools, but all three provide extra information, so using any of them marks that run Assisted. The solve can still count for the specialist streak, while the local history records whether it was clean.

Candidate Lens as a verification tool

The lens is especially useful after you have formed a theory by hand. Turn it on and compare the exact remaining-candidate count with your expectation. If you believe only two codes can remain but the lens finds twelve, revisit which part of a previous clue you treated as certain. The engine does not use a heuristic to estimate the count. It enumerates all 1,296 Standard codes and retains a code only if every past feedback row can be reproduced exactly.

Previous-day replay

The Daily screen provides date navigation for earlier puzzles. Replaying an older date is useful for practice and for seeing how your approach changes, but the current streak calculation remains tied to actual solved dates in local history. Future dates are not intended to become a source of advance answers; the game normalizes a direct future-date request back to today.

What the specialist streak means

The streak is a simple browser-local count of consecutive solved Daily Code Breaker dates ending today or, when today is not yet solved, yesterday. It is not synced between devices and cannot represent a global ranking. The best streak is also stored locally. Clearing browser storage can erase these values, so the interface avoids presenting them as an account-backed record.

Use Practice to improve the Daily

If the Daily feels difficult, switch to Easy Practice and work on separating symbol membership from position without repeated symbols. Then return to Standard Practice and focus on duplicate handling. Hard and Expert are useful once you can maintain several constraints at once. Because Practice creates fresh seeded codes and does not consume the Daily puzzle, you can train as much as you want before returning to today’s shared code.

A good first two guesses

There is no single guaranteed optimal opening for every secret, but an information-minded start usually tests several distinct symbols rather than repeating one symbol four times. After the first feedback, the second guess should answer a specific question: are you testing whether new symbols belong, or are you relocating symbols already known to exist? Mixing too many goals into one row can make the feedback harder to interpret. The optional Hint demonstrates a candidate that attempts to split the remaining set rather than pretending to provide a universal perfect move.

Share without revealing the secret

The Share control copies a compact result made from the feedback pattern of each submitted row. It reports the date, the number of guesses and whether the run was Clean or Assisted, but it does not copy the hidden symbol sequence. That makes it possible to compare how quickly you solved the same daily code without directly spoiling the answer for someone who has not played yet.
