Daily Crossword
Open one frozen crossword for the date. Daily Crossword follows a predictable Mini/Standard/Deep rhythm, never enters Today’s 6, and stores completion, assistance and streak history only in this browser.
One Crossword for the date
Daily Crossword is a specialist daily, not a new member of Today’s 6. Opening the same calendar date selects the same frozen source on that device and in any other copy of the same V0.111 release. The date is part of the deterministic selection contract, not a server-side puzzle feed.
Future dates are not exposed through the game navigation. Previous dates can be revisited from the day controls, while the specialist history tracks which dates were completed and maintains its own local streak.
The six-day size rhythm
The Daily schedule repeats Mini, Standard, Mini, Standard, Mini, Deep. In a 365-day non-leap year that creates 183 Mini days, 122 Standard days and 60 Deep days. The selection function walks each size bank with a coprime stride, so every occurrence within the year uses a different source before that size can wrap.
For 2026 the independent verifier checks all 365 dates, confirms the expected size distribution and confirms that the selected puzzle IDs are all distinct. This gives a predictable rhythm: most days are short or medium, while a longer Deep grid appears about once a week.
Daily history and streaks
Finishing the date writes one local history row with the puzzle ID, size, active completion time and whether the solve was clean or assisted. Reopening a completed date restores that completed specialist record rather than changing Today’s 6 data.
The Crossword streak is calculated only from Crossword Daily history. It never changes the main Daily lineup, main Daily perfect streak or archive schedule. This containment is tested because specialist additions should not silently rewrite the original habit loop.
Use help without hiding it
Daily Crossword keeps the same Check and Reveal tools as Practice. A player who wants a pure attempt can ignore them. A player who is stuck can use them and still finish the puzzle. The result is simply labeled assisted rather than being blocked from completion.
This contract is preferable to pretending every completion was unaided. It also avoids punitive UX: Check does not dump the solution, and Reveal fills only the active clue instead of the entire grid.
Offline and local-first
The Crossword route, frozen bank, core logic and application script are part of the PWA shell. Once cached, the specialist does not need a puzzle server to choose the source or score an answer. The exact runtime package is staged from the current Full Project rather than copied from an older Preview.
Daily history and drafts remain in browser local storage. There is no sign-in requirement, no social leaderboard and no background upload of your crossword letters. The public build remains available for search indexing until an explicit production decision.
What makes a Daily source valid
A source must use the correct grid size, contain only blocks and uppercase answer cells, map each clue to the exact answer letters and cover every open cell in exactly one Across and one Down entry. Duplicate entry keys, broken coordinates and mismatched solution strings are rejected.
The verifier also checks that a perfect filled grid is accepted and that changing one open letter makes completion fail. Daily selection is then tested separately across the full 2026 calendar so a valid bank cannot still ship with a broken date selector.
A useful routine, not a diagnosis
Crosswords can be enjoyable language practice because they combine recall with intersecting constraints, but this site does not infer a medical or cognitive condition from performance. A difficult clue may simply be unfamiliar. A fast solve may reflect prior exposure to the same vocabulary pattern.
Treat the Daily result as a small local puzzle record. The product intentionally avoids fabricated percentiles, “brain age,” IQ estimates or guaranteed learning claims.
What this page does not claim
Crossword results are local puzzle results, not a medical assessment, IQ estimate, literacy diagnosis or population percentile. A puzzle can feel easier or harder because its vocabulary happens to match your background. The useful comparison is your own experience under similar conditions, not a fabricated global ranking.
