Daily Cryptogram
Everyone using this release gets the same frozen knowledge phrase and the same substitution key for the date. Solve it once, protect your local streak, or replay an earlier date without touching Today’s 6.
One fixed cryptogram for the calendar date
The Daily mode is deterministic in two layers. First, the date is converted to an integer day number and mapped through a fixed step across the frozen 956-item bank. Because the step is coprime with the bank size, the selector walks a long cycle instead of repeatedly landing on a tiny subset. Second, the chosen item ID, date and Daily seed are fed into the alphabet-key generator. A fresh browser on the same date therefore reconstructs the same plaintext, the same A–Z substitution and the same built-in clue count. This is stronger than merely choosing the same sentence and then randomizing a different cipher every time the page loads.
Why a shared Daily matters
Unlimited Practice is useful for building skill, but a Daily puzzle creates a repeatable habit. You know there is one particular cipher waiting today, and you can compare your own solve with yesterday without needing an account or global leaderboard. The fixed puzzle also makes spoiler-free sharing meaningful: the result can identify the date and Clean or Assisted status without copying the answer. The release does not claim server-enforced fairness because everything is local. It simply guarantees that the deterministic engine itself returns the same Daily identity when given the same date.
Daily difficulty can vary
The Daily selector uses the full frozen bank rather than forcing every date into one artificial tier. Some days are shorter and easier; others contain longer facts or questions with more unique letters. The interface labels the selected item’s actual difficulty and applies the corresponding built-in starter-clue rule. Easy Daily items begin with two starter mappings, Standard with one, while Hard and Expert begin cold. That variation keeps the habit from feeling mechanically identical while the underlying substitution rules remain constant.
Local streak rules
Completing the Daily Cryptogram records that date in the specialist’s browser-local history. If the previously completed date was exactly the day before, the current streak increases by one. If there is a gap, the new solve begins a new streak of one. Solving the same date again does not increment the streak twice. The best streak is stored separately. The Daily history belongs only to Cryptogram and never writes a completion into the platform’s main Today’s 6 day record.
Clean and Assisted Daily solves
A Daily solve can be Clean even when the selected difficulty provides its normal starter clues, because those clues are part of the puzzle contract. Using Hint or Check changes the run to Assisted. Hint reveals a real cipher-to-plaintext mapping. Check reports how many of your current mappings are correct or incorrect. Because that information could guide later guesses, the Assisted flag stays on even if you Undo the affected mapping. Daily history stores whether the finish was Clean, but both Clean and Assisted solves can advance the specialist streak because the Daily puzzle was genuinely completed.
Autosave survives interruption
The Daily autosave key includes the date, so opening today’s puzzle after a reload finds the matching serialized puzzle ID, seed, mapping and start time. If all of those identifiers match, the engine restores your exact guess map on top of the built-in locked clues. A stale save from another date or a different puzzle cannot silently replace the current board. Once the puzzle is solved or fully revealed, the active autosave is removed while the permanent Daily history remains.
Previous-day navigation
The Daily interface includes Previous and Next navigation. Previous dates remain playable so you can revisit a missed specialist puzzle or inspect an earlier cipher. The Next control is hidden when you are already on the current local date, and a directly supplied future date is normalized back to today. This keeps the Daily identity predictable without requiring a server clock. Historical replays use their own date keys and do not falsely extend a current streak unless the stored sequence really is consecutive.
The content has a learning payoff
The bank does not scrape contemporary quotes or copy a third-party puzzle feed. It is derived from the project’s reviewed Trivia and World Facts content. Some Daily ciphers decode into a factual statement. Others decode into a knowledge question; once solved, the interface reveals the answer and the short explanation already associated with that question. This means the player practices substitution reasoning and then gets a small piece of general knowledge rather than only uncovering a generic slogan.
How to approach today’s cipher
Start by scanning for one-letter words and repeated short patterns. Then check the Pattern Coach’s frequency line: a symbol that appears many times is more likely to represent a common English letter, although frequency alone is never proof. Look for doubled patterns inside a word, common endings such as -ING or -ED, and repeated three-letter structures that could be common function words. Every mapping propagates through all copies of the cipher symbol, so one correct inference can reveal the shape of several words at once.
Why there is no global leaderboard claim
This project is intentionally local-first. A browser can store your time, streak and Clean status, but it cannot prove that another person did not inspect source code, change local storage or use an external solver. The interface therefore avoids fake world rank, percentile or anti-cheat claims. The value of the Daily is the shared deterministic puzzle and your own honest history. If the project later adds authenticated competitive features, they would need a different trust boundary and would be evaluated separately.
Play today
Open the Daily tab and the engine will derive today’s bank index, plaintext and substitution key locally. Select an encrypted letter, type the plaintext letter you think it represents, and watch that mapping propagate through the entire phrase. Use Pattern Coach freely, or use Hint and Check when you want explicit assistance. When the last used cipher letter has the correct mapping, the game completes automatically and records today in the specialist history.
