DAILY FREECELL · DATE-STABLE CLASSIC DEAL

One FreeCell deal for the date.

Daily FreeCell selects one classic Microsoft-compatible deal for the local date and keeps that exact opening stable all day. The challenge uses the same full FreeCell rules as unlimited Practice: eight face-up tableau columns, four temporary free cells, four suit foundations, alternating-color builds and capacity-limited supermoves. It has its own local history and streak and remains completely separate from Today’s 6.

How the Daily deal is selected

The Daily system does not create a fresh unverified random shuffle on every load. Instead it maps the date into the original 32,000 classic deal range while explicitly skipping #11982, the known unsolvable exception from that collection. The mapping uses a step that traverses all 31,999 remaining deal positions before the cycle repeats.

That gives the Daily challenge two useful properties. First, two fresh browser contexts on the same date receive the same numbered opening, so the puzzle identity is deterministic. Second, the system does not quietly choose the historically impossible classic deal for an ordinary Daily streak attempt. You can still load #11982 manually from Classic Numbered mode if you want to inspect that famous exception.

Daily FreeCell is not Today’s 6

The platform already has a frozen six-game Daily rotation and a separate Daily Score. FreeCell does not enter or reshuffle that contract. Completing Daily FreeCell writes only to the FreeCell specialist’s local history and streak. If you solve today’s FreeCell and never touch Today’s 6, the Today’s 6 completion count remains unchanged.

This separation is deliberate. A deep FreeCell deal may take much longer than one of the six short daily games, so forcing it into the core six would distort the original product promise. Specialist Daily modes provide a reason to return without changing the length or identity of Today’s 6.

Why the same deal is useful

FreeCell is open information. The cards do not change because you failed, refreshed or reopened the page, so improvement can come from better decisions rather than a luckier redeal. If you make a poor early parking decision, Undo can help you study the mistake; if you want a completely Clean record, restart the same deal and solve it without assistance.

Because the opening is numbered, the Daily also has a clear identity. The interface shows the deal number instead of hiding the shuffle behind an opaque date token. That makes it easy to replay the opening later through Classic Numbered mode or compare your own future line against today’s attempt.

What the game tracks

The specialist stores the unfinished board, elapsed time, move count and assistance state locally so closing the tab does not necessarily erase a long solve. A completed Daily writes the deal number, time, moves and whether the clear was Clean into the specialist’s Daily history. Consecutive solved dates advance the FreeCell streak and the best streak remains browser-local.

These records are intentionally modest. They are not a global leaderboard, population percentile or proof that one player is stronger than another. A fast solve can use a very different move-count convention across FreeCell programs, especially where automatic foundation moves differ. The local record exists to compare this implementation with itself.

Clean and Assisted Daily clears

A Daily win always counts as a Daily win. Clean status only determines whether the solve can replace a Clean personal best. Using Hint, Safe Home, Undo or Restart marks the run Assisted and that state is sticky. Undo cannot erase the fact that assistance was already used.

This keeps the learning tools useful without making the records misleading. A player can freely request a legal idea, study why a safe foundation move works and still finish the puzzle. The Daily streak rewards completion; the Clean record rewards an unaided completion under the same engine.

Reading the board before the first move

Before parking anything, locate the Aces and Twos and notice which columns cover them. A low card buried under one blocker is usually easier to release than one buried under six. Also count how many useful alternating-color links already exist among exposed cards. Creating a long mobile run often frees more space than moving several single cards independently.

Next, treat the four free cells as a shared budget. With all four empty and no empty tableau column, a five-card valid sequence can be transported. As cells fill, that capacity shrinks. If you create an empty tableau column, the capacity can increase dramatically, which is why the interface reports the current supermove limit instead of letting oversized drag operations fail mysteriously.

Finally, do not confuse a legal foundation move with a strategically safe automatic move. The game permits any foundation move that follows suit and rank. The Safe Home helper is more conservative: it moves only cards that satisfy the engine’s safety test and marks the run Assisted. You remain free to make a more aggressive legal foundation decision yourself in a Clean run.

Mobile play without hiding the state

All eight columns remain visible within the mobile workspace rather than collapsing the puzzle into one column at a time. Cards overlap vertically, as physical FreeCell layouts traditionally do, but each exposed or sequence-start card remains a real button with an accessible label. Tap-select/tap-destination works alongside pointer dragging, making the same state playable with touch, mouse or keyboard focus.

The top row mirrors the eight-column geometry: four free cells and four foundations. The Strategy Coach sits below the board so it does not cover cards during a long deal. This keeps the first viewport focused on the actual puzzle while still making move capacity, open cells, home progress and assistance state visible.

After today’s deal

Daily FreeCell is one stopping point, not the whole specialist. Classic Numbered mode lets you enter any original deal from 1 through 32,000, including historically famous examples. Curated easier, difficult and very difficult sample buttons provide quick starting points, while Random Solvable Classic chooses from the known-solvable portion of the original set.
