Daily Go
Play one stable 9×9 Go session for the selected date. The date fixes your color and the browser AI’s deterministic tie-break seed, while your actual placements still determine the game.
The date fixes a session identity, not a solved script
Daily Go begins from an empty 9×9 board like a normal game. The date determines whether you are Black or White and supplies the deterministic seed used when the local computer has equivalent choices. From there, every placement changes liberties, capture possibilities and territory, so your decisions create the actual game rather than following a fixed puzzle line.
Black still moves first
If the date assigns you Black, you make the opening move. If it assigns you White, the computer makes one legal Black move before your first decision. The color assignment changes across dates so the Daily habit does not train only first-player positions. The scoring contract remains 6.5 komi for White on every date.
The same capture rules remain active
Daily mode does not simplify the engine. Connected groups share liberties, opposing groups are removed when their last liberty disappears, suicide is checked after captures, and positional superko prevents a stone placement from recreating an earlier board. A move that is illegal in Practice is equally illegal in Daily Go.
Pass only when the board is ready to score
One pass gives the turn away and displays that a pass is active. A normal stone move resets that count. When both sides pass consecutively, the game ends and the browser counts the board exactly as it stands. Because there is no remote dead-stone agreement step, unresolved fights should be played out instead of expecting the scorer to guess which stones both players would remove.
The result uses transparent area scoring
Black’s score is its stones plus empty regions bordered only by Black. White receives its stones plus its surrounded empty points plus 6.5 komi. The half-point komi also removes ordinary tied scores. The finished Daily record stores win or loss, Clean or Assisted status, move count, player color, winning margin and board size.
Returning to the date restores the same state
The browser-local autosave carries the board array, side to move, capture totals, pass count, board-position history for superko, move log, player color and Clean or Assisted status. Reopening the same date resumes that exact game rather than starting another. A date without an autosave uses the same deterministic color and AI seed every time.
Hint and Undo stay visibly Assisted
Hint highlights one legal point preferred by the strongest local heuristic. Undo restores the position before your previous move, including any computer reply that followed it. Restart returns to the same empty-board session identity. All three actions mark the game Assisted because Daily history should not mix aided and unaided results without saying so.
The computer is local, not a hidden rank
Easy, Standard and Hard are product difficulty settings rather than kyu or dan ratings. They use the same visible board and the same legal-move generator. There is no remote Go engine, account ladder or global rating service behind the page, so the interface does not invent an Elo, percentile or world rank.
The Daily streak measures participation, not only winning
Completing a Daily Go date updates the specialist history and consecutive-date streak even when the computer wins. That makes the streak useful as a practice habit instead of punishing learners for choosing a difficult opponent. Clean wins remain a separate local statistic.
Today’s 6 remains frozen
Daily Go never occupies one of the six main Daily slots and does not write into the main `days` results. It lives under its own `goStats.daily` history. Release QA checks that Go and the other specialist games do not enter the frozen 2026 Today’s 6 lineup.
Practice adds 13×13 and longer sessions
Daily stays intentionally compact at 9×9. Unlimited Practice can switch between 9×9 and 13×13, select Black, White or seeded-random color, create Fresh seeds and play Match to 3. All modes share the same capture, superko, pass and area-scoring functions.
Everything remains local to this browser
No account, remote database or paid API is required. There is no wagering, no chips, no prizes, no stakes, no purchases and no paid-random mechanics. Versioned migration carries the specialist state forward only when the next canonical release is built, while the prior serialized store remains untouched for rollback evidence.
