DAILY KILLER · DATE-STABLE

Daily Killer Sudoku

Open one reproducible Killer Sudoku for the current local date. The board comes from the same verified bank as Practice and keeps its streak separate from Today’s 6.

One date-stable Killer Sudoku each day

The Daily Killer flow chooses one of the three difficulty bands from the local calendar date, then deterministically selects a source and one of its eight symmetry transforms. Two fresh browsers using the same local date therefore receive the same source identity, difficulty and transformed cage layout.

Separate specialist streak

Finishing Daily Killer records a Killer-specific date entry, current streak and best streak. It never inserts Killer Sudoku into Today's 6 and never changes the 6,000-point Daily Score.

Resume instead of restart

Values, notes, elapsed time, selected cell, Hint count and checked-mistake count are saved in local browser state. Returning to the same Daily puzzle restores that work until the puzzle is solved.

Same learning tools

Daily uses the same cage-combination helper, remainder view, Notes, Auto Notes, Undo/Redo, Check and Hint controls as Unlimited Practice. The daily format changes the replay schedule, not the engine quality.

A daily puzzle should be reproducible

A daily game is only meaningful if the board is stable for the day. V0.59 does not generate a new Killer Sudoku every time the page opens. The date feeds a deterministic seed; that seed picks the difficulty, source and symmetry transform. This also makes QA possible because the same date can be replayed in two clean browser contexts and compared exactly.

The daily sequence does not pretend to be a global competition. There is no fabricated leaderboard, population percentile or worldwide rank. The only persistent measures are your own completion time, whether the solve stayed clean, and your local specialist streak. Those are direct observations from this browser rather than inferred claims about ability.

If you prefer one difficulty, Unlimited Practice lets you choose Easy, Standard or Hard and request a fresh seeded variant. Daily is deliberately one board so it can function as a repeatable habit, while Practice is the deeper replay surface.

Daily Killer strategy

On the first pass, scan the cage sums and mark the most restrictive combinations. Next, use ordinary Sudoku exclusions to decide which member of a combination can occupy each square. Revisit the cage panel after every major placement: a four-cell cage may have many combinations at the beginning but collapse to one remaining pair after two entries are known.

Remember that the sum helper displays unordered combinations. If a three-cell cage shows 1 + 4 + 8, that does not mean the cage is filled in that order. The puzzle is still solved by crossing constraints from rows, columns and boxes. That distinction keeps the helper educational instead of turning it into an answer reveal.

When stuck, the Rule of 45 can create information that is not visible from a single cage. Add complete cages that sit inside one row, column or box and subtract from 45. The leftover total often constrains one or more cells belonging to cages that cross the boundary. Hint remains available as a last resort, but using it marks the run assisted so a clean best remains meaningful.

What this page launches

This is not a separate thin quiz. It opens the same Killer Sudoku application used by the Practice catalog, with the same solver-verified source bank, local autosave, notes, cage-combination panel, Check, Hint, Undo/Redo and completion logic. The focused page exists only to explain the intent before sending you into the real game.
