One deterministic Make 24 puzzle for the date
Daily Make 24 uses the date as a deterministic seed. For a given calendar date, the source puzzle, difficulty and starting-number order are stable. Reloading the page does not silently reroll the challenge. That makes the Daily mode useful as a small repeatable routine rather than an endless random generator.
The Daily mode uses the same exact arithmetic engine as Practice. You still select one card, choose +, −, × or ÷, and select the second card. Every intermediate is stored as a reduced fraction, and the solve only completes when the final card equals 24 exactly.
Why a daily arithmetic puzzle can be useful
A short fixed puzzle removes the decision of what to practice. You open the date, inspect four numbers, and look for structure. Some days resolve quickly through an obvious factorization. Others are intentionally more constrained and may require working backward or considering a fraction. The goal is not to create a huge homework session; it is to keep flexible arithmetic reasoning active through a small daily challenge.
The difficulty changes, but the rules do not
The Daily selector draws from the same verified Easy, Standard and Challenge source families. Easy sources have many exact routes. Standard sources are more constrained. Challenge sources may have only one or two normalized routes, and a few require a fractional intermediate. The date determines which family appears, so Daily does not become predictable simply because you have learned one difficulty.
Exact fractions protect the Daily result
Daily streaks should not depend on floating-point luck. The engine therefore never decides that a value is close enough to 24. Each merge keeps an integer numerator and denominator reduced by their greatest common divisor. Division by zero is rejected. A final value such as 48/2 is normalized to 24; a value that is merely near 24 is not accepted.
Autosave and reload restore
The Daily attempt is browser-local autosave state keyed by the date. If you make one or two merges and reload, the current cards, exact fractions, elapsed time, move count and Undo history can restore. This makes the daily puzzle resilient to an accidental refresh without requiring a login or remote account.
When you solve the date, the autosave is removed and a compact history record is written instead. That record includes solve time, whether the run was Clean or Assisted, the source identifier and the starting permutation used for that date.
Clean and Assisted Daily results
A Clean result means you reached 24 without using Check or Verified Hint. If you ask Check whether your current state is still solvable, or use a Verified Hint to receive a next merge, the run becomes Assisted. Assisted solves still count as completed Daily practice, but they do not overwrite a Clean best record. This separation keeps help available without pretending the solve was unaided.
How the Daily streak works
Solving today after solving the immediately previous date extends the specialist Daily streak. Otherwise the current streak starts again at one. Best streak is retained locally. This is a Make 24 specialist streak and does not insert the game into the frozen Today’s 6 rotation.
Missed dates and replay semantics
The Daily route accepts an explicit day value so a known date can be reproduced for testing and archive-style replay. The deterministic mapping means the same date leads back to the same puzzle rather than a newly randomized source. A replay does not change what arithmetic was assigned to that date.
Use the monitor to learn from the source
The sidebar shows the source’s normalized route count and whether its source family requires a fraction route. A low route count tells you that random merges are less likely to work. When a source is marked fraction-required, an intermediate such as 3/2 or 8/3 should be considered a legitimate strategic step rather than immediate evidence that the attempt went wrong.
Verified Hint is state-aware
The Daily hint does not contain a canned sentence tied only to the starting four numbers. It solves the cards that remain on the screen. If your earlier merge is still compatible with a route to 24, the hint applies a verified next merge from that state. If you have created a genuine dead end, it tells you no exact route remains and you should Undo.
Accessibility and keyboard workflow
Every visible number card is a real button with an accessible label that includes its exact value. Large operator buttons work with pointer or touch input. Keyboard users can select current card positions with 1 through 4 and choose operations with the corresponding operator keys. Pause disables card input and Verified Hint so a paused timer is not also an active solving state.
No remote puzzle feed
The Daily puzzle does not arrive from an external puzzle service. The release includes a project-generated 60-source bank and deterministic date selector. A separate release verifier independently checks the arithmetic contract and the 2026 Daily sequence. This keeps the daily experience available offline through the project’s PWA shell after its assets are cached.
A focused Daily entry point
This page exists for the distinct intent of finding a daily Make 24 arithmetic challenge. It links directly to the same specialist used by Practice rather than creating separate thin implementations for “easy daily,” “hard daily,” “mobile daily,” or individual dates. One product owns the rules, exact solver, autosave and local history.
