Daily Nurikabe one shared date, four interacting rules

Daily Nurikabe chooses one deterministic, uniquely verified board for the calendar date. Everyone using the same date gets the same source and symmetry choice, while your progress, clean or Assisted result and specialist streak stay local to your browser.

What makes the Daily reproducible?

The Daily selector does not ask a server for a random puzzle. It derives a stable day index from the calendar date, maps that value through a deterministic permutation, then chooses a difficulty, source board and square symmetry from the frozen local bank. Reloading the same date therefore returns the same board. That makes autosave, history and QA reproducible without requiring an account or database.

For the 2026 release contract, all 365 dates are checked. The intended distribution is 58 Easy dates, 240 Standard dates and 67 Challenge dates. There are 226 distinct source-and-transform starts across those 365 dates. The product does not claim that all 365 Daily boards are geometrically unique. Repetition is possible by design because the daily schedule is built from a finite, independently verified bank.

Daily Nurikabe is a specialist Daily, not a seventh item secretly inserted into Today’s 6. The platform’s established six-game rotation remains frozen. Completing this specialist writes only to Nurikabe’s own Daily history and streak data, so existing Daily Score history and Today’s 6 sequence are not altered.

The four rules still do all the work

Every number defines the exact size of one connected Island. An island containing a 3 must finish with three white cells including the clue. Different numbered islands may touch diagonally but may not share an edge, and one connected Island component may never contain two clues.

Every non-Island cell belongs to the Sea. All Sea cells must connect orthogonally into one region by the end of the solve. The Sea also cannot fill an entire 2×2 square. These global constraints are what turn a small local clue into a chain of deductions across the board.

A useful Daily routine is to scan clues of 1 first, then mark cells trapped between different clues, then inspect every 2×2 block with three known Sea cells. After that, review each numbered island’s remaining capacity and the Sea’s possible connecting corridors. The rule monitor on the play page keeps those quantities visible without exposing unknown answers.

Autosave and resume

Daily progress is saved after meaningful board changes. The autosave stores your current Sea and Island marks, move history, Assisted status and elapsed solve time under the date-specific Nurikabe key. If you leave and return, the page restores the board and Undo history instead of starting a second version of the same Daily.

Pause stops the local timer and hides the board. This matters for a Daily puzzle because a solve may be interrupted by ordinary life; the local best-time record should not require keeping the tab focused continuously. Restart clears the current board state for that date but does not mutate old dates or the platform’s main Daily records.

After a solve, the specialist history stores the date, source identity, move count, elapsed time and whether the result was Clean or Assisted. A Clean solve uses no Check or Verified Hint. Check and Hint remain available whenever you want them, but the product records that help honestly rather than presenting an assisted completion as an unassisted personal best.

Daily versus unlimited Practice

Use Daily when you want one stable puzzle and a specialist streak. Use Practice when you want repetition, targeted grid sizes or a fresh seed immediately. Practice offers Easy 5×5, Standard 7×7 and Challenge 9×9, and its no-seed URL stabilizes to a concrete seed so reloading does not silently replace the board you were solving.

Both modes use the same frozen verified source bank and the same eight symmetry transforms. Both support Cycle, Sea Paint and Island Paint, drag marking, keyboard input, Undo/Redo, Check, Verified Hint, pause and browser-local autosave. The distinction is scheduling and history, not a weaker puzzle-quality standard.

If the Daily feels too difficult, opening an Easy Practice board is a better learning path than repeatedly revealing Daily cells. Once the rules become automatic, return to the Daily and solve from the saved state. That keeps the Daily useful as a recurring challenge while still giving new players a lower-friction way to learn the deduction patterns.

Why verification matters for a Daily puzzle

A logic Daily is frustrating if the player cannot tell whether a dead end came from a mistake or from an ambiguous puzzle. For that reason, the source bank is generated locally and then checked by a separate solver that counts legal Nurikabe solutions from the clue set. Only boards with exactly one solution are committed. The stored reference solution is used for release verification and optional Verified Hint behavior; it is not displayed during normal play.

The release verifier also checks all eight transforms of every source for structural validity, samples thousands of seeded Practice selections, replays stored solutions and walks the full 2026 Daily schedule twice to confirm determinism. This means Daily selection is part of the tested product contract rather than an unverified random-number path.

The game makes no claim that a Nurikabe solve measures intelligence, predicts academic performance or maps to a global percentile. Daily history is simply a local record of your interactions with this puzzle type. That keeps the feedback useful and honest: you can compare your own clean solves, assisted solves and streaks without pretending the browser knows how you compare with a population.

A compact Daily solving checklist

First, close every completed island: once an Island region reaches its clue size, all orthogonal neighbors outside that region are Sea. Second, separate clues: no Island path may merge two numbered cells. Third, scan 2×2 blocks: three Sea corners force the fourth corner to Island. Fourth, inspect Sea connectivity: do not cut the only possible bridge between two Sea regions. Fifth, revisit island reachability: if an unfinished clue has only enough reachable cells to hit its exact target, those cells become increasingly constrained.

On larger Challenge boards, repeat this scan after every major deduction rather than trying to solve one island in isolation. Nurikabe rewards alternating between local and global views. A move that seems neutral for one clue may be decisive because it changes the Sea’s only connection path or completes a 2×2 pattern elsewhere.
