DAILY STAR BATTLE · DATE-STABLE · VERIFIEDDaily Star Battle
One deterministic Star Battle puzzle for the selected date, with a verified unique solution and browser-local autosave. The date chooses the board size, difficulty, frozen source and symmetry. Daily Star Battle has its own specialist history and does not change the frozen Today’s 6 rotation.
A specialist daily, separate from Today’s 6
Daily Star Battle is an additional repeatable logic habit, not a new slot in the platform’s main six-game daily set. The existing Today’s 6 source rotation remains frozen. Completing or skipping Star Battle cannot replace a Word, Number, Trivia, Geography, Logic or Skill slot.
The specialist keeps its own date history and streak locally. This separation allows the Star Battle experience to grow without silently changing the established daily sequence.
How a date becomes a board
The date string feeds a deterministic selector. That selector chooses 6×6, 7×7 or 8×8, an Easy, Medium or Hard pool, one of the 45 frozen sources and one of eight verified symmetry variants. No server-side puzzle database or paid API is required.
Because the mapping is deterministic, the same date in the same V0.103 release reconstructs the same regions and solution every time. That makes Daily play reproducible for migration tests, browser QA and exact restore.
Daily Star Battle rules
Place exactly one star in every row, one in every column and one in every outlined region. Stars cannot touch horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The bold region boundaries and no-touch spacing are both mandatory; satisfying only the row and column pattern is not enough.
X marks are optional reasoning notes. Use them to record impossible cells as rows, columns and regions become complete. A finished Daily board is accepted when the star placement satisfies all four rule families, even if some empty cells were never marked X.
Daily autosave
Every date has its own autosave key. Leaving halfway through and returning later restores the same source, symmetry, marks, move count and assistance status. A completed date restores as completed rather than starting over.
The migration gate also verifies that the prior release’s Hashi records remain intact when the storage schema advances to V0.103 and Star Battle statistics are initialized.
Clean and Assisted daily results
A Clean completion uses no Hint, Check, Undo, Redo or Restart assistance. Those controls stay available because Daily Star Battle should still be useful for learning, but using them marks the run Assisted before it enters specialist history.
The local history stores date, size, difficulty, moves and Clean or Assisted status. It does not invent world ranks or population percentiles.
A practical daily solving routine
Start by scanning the smallest regions and the most constrained edge shapes. Mark cells that cannot contain a star because a row, column or region is already committed. Once a star is certain, immediately X every neighboring cell, including diagonals, then complete its row, column and region by eliminating the remaining cells there.
After the obvious placements, look for region-line interactions. If every remaining cell in a region lies in two rows, that region claims one of those rows. If two regions together are restricted to the same two columns, they can reserve those columns and eliminate candidates elsewhere. These grouped deductions are often the bridge from an easy opening to a harder finish.
Use the day controls to revisit a recent Daily board. Replaying the date reconstructs the same verified source rather than generating a new puzzle, which makes it possible to study a difficult deduction after the first solve.
Why the Daily is reproducible
The release freezes the 45 source boards as static assets. The date selector does not mutate those files. It only chooses a source and one of the preverified geometric transforms. This keeps the daily contract simple: source data is immutable, selection is deterministic, and storage is local.
Independent QA runs the date mapping across all 365 days of 2026 to make sure repeated calls choose the same specification.
Difficulty changes through the year
The date can select any of the three sizes and any of the three difficulty pools, so the daily sequence is not locked to one board size. Difficulty pools are based on measured exact-solver search effort among verified boards of the same size.
That creates variation without introducing unverified random boards. Every possible Daily selection comes from the same frozen, independently recounted bank.
Daily Star Battle as a short logic habit
Star Battle works well as a daily because progress is visible even before the first star is placed. Each valid X narrows a row, column or region. The rules are compact enough to remember without a tutorial every day, while the interaction between region shapes and the no-touch constraint produces different deduction paths across boards.
If today’s board is more difficult than you want, Hint and Check are available and transparently mark the run Assisted. If you want additional boards after the Daily, Practice offers unlimited deterministic seeds at a chosen size and difficulty without changing the date history.
What happens when you revisit a date
A Daily Star Battle date is not a disposable random draw. The same date selects the same size, difficulty, source and symmetry, while the browser-local autosave remembers the marks you actually made. If you leave after eliminating half the board, reopening that date resumes the same logical position. If you already solved it, the completed star pattern and specialist history return together.
This also makes the day controls useful for deliberate review. You can compare yesterday’s region interactions with today’s board without the older puzzle silently changing underneath you.
What the daily does not change
Daily Star Battle does not modify the frozen 2026 Today’s 6 lineup, does not add a seventh main daily slot, and does not reuse Today’s 6 streak storage. It is deliberately contained inside starBattleStats, with its own history, streak, best streak and autosaves.
The release QA checks all 365 dates in the frozen main rotation and confirms Star Battle appears zero times there. That containment keeps the specialist optional while preserving the platform’s existing daily contract.
Use the Daily as a deduction checkpoint
Because the board is stable for the date, you can treat it as a compact checkpoint rather than a speed contest. First make only the exclusions you can prove. Then place forced stars and propagate the no-touch rule. If a later contradiction appears, Undo can help you inspect the branch, but the run is clearly labeled Assisted. If you prefer a fully Clean record, restart the same date and solve it again from the beginning using the deductions you learned.
The goal is repeatable logic practice, not a fabricated comparison with strangers. Time and move count stay local, and the verified puzzle data remains identical whether you solve quickly, slowly, in one sitting or across several sessions.
