DAILY THERMOMETERS · DATE-STABLE SPECIALIST

Daily Thermometers

Daily Thermometers gives the specialist one stable puzzle for the calendar date. It uses the same verified local source bank as Practice, but keeps a separate browser-local history and streak so the puzzle can become a repeatable habit without altering Today’s 6.

ScheduleOne stable board / date

What makes the Daily mode different?

Practice is designed for unlimited replay. It chooses a verified source and one of eight symmetry transforms from a stable seed in the URL. Daily Thermometers instead derives its choice from the date. Opening the same Daily date again returns to the same puzzle rather than generating a new board because you refreshed the page.

The specialist’s Daily history is separate from Today’s 6. Solving Daily Thermometers does not add a seventh slot, change the Daily Score, or modify the frozen six-game lineup. It records only Thermometers-specific completion data and a local specialist streak.

This separation is intentional. A user who enjoys Thermometers can make it a daily ritual, while someone who only wants the main six-game routine never has the specialist inserted into that routine automatically.

The rules are exactly the same

Every cell belongs to one thermometer. Mercury fills continuously from the bulb toward the tip. You may stop at any level from completely empty to completely full, but a filled cell can never appear after an empty cell on the same path.

Each row clue is the exact number of Mercury cells in that row. Each column clue is the exact number in that column. A legal solution therefore chooses one fill level for every thermometer and satisfies all of those totals simultaneously.

Curved thermometers make Daily boards more interesting because a single fill level can affect multiple rows and columns. The line clues and the path direction must be read together rather than solved as independent horizontal strips.

A practical Daily solving routine

1. Scan extreme and nearly complete lines

Start with rows and columns whose clues are zero, equal to the full line length, already reached by your current Mercury marks, or only a small number away from completion. These clues usually create the fastest forced marks.

2. Push implications along thermometers

A forced Mercury cell also fills every earlier position toward its bulb. A forced Empty cell also empties every later position toward its tip. After every such propagation, re-scan the crossing row and column totals because one thermometer decision often resolves another line.

3. Watch fill-level ranges

The live monitor reports a local level range for every thermometer. If Thermometer 6 shows 3–5/7, its current marks permit three, four or five filled cells. If it becomes 4/7, the level is locally fixed and the remaining cells on that path can be completed.

4. Use assistance deliberately

Check and Verified Hint are available, but both clearly mark a run Assisted. Verified Hint first tries a row, column or thermometer deduction and only falls back to a single verified reveal when no immediate local force is available.

Autosave and restore

Daily Thermometers stores the active puzzle state in the browser: Mercury and Empty marks, Undo and Redo history, move count, assistance state and elapsed time. Closing the tab and returning to the same Daily date restores that local progress rather than throwing away a partly solved puzzle.

After completion, the active autosave is removed and the date is written to the Thermometers Daily history. The specialist streak advances when consecutive local dates are solved. No account sign-in or remote profile is required for this behavior.

Because the state is browser-local, clearing site storage or moving to a different device does not magically synchronize progress. The product does not claim cloud sync when no cloud account exists.

How the Daily pool is verified

The project contains 60 frozen source boards: 20 Easy 6×6, 20 Standard 8×8 and 20 Challenge 10×10. A project-local generator creates complete thermometer path covers and solved fill levels, derives the row and column counts, and then an independent exact solver checks the legal assignment count.

Only sources with exactly one legal solution enter the frozen bank. Eight geometry-preserving symmetry transforms can be applied. The Daily schedule deterministically selects among those verified source-transform combinations.

There are 365 calendar dates in the 2026 verification sweep, but the product does not claim 365 distinct boards. The deterministic schedule intentionally may revisit a source-transform start. Verification reports the actual number of distinct starts rather than replacing it with a marketing-friendly number.

Why a daily specialist can be useful

Thermometers trains a compact type of constraint reasoning: exact counts, one-directional implications, and repeated re-evaluation after a forced move. A Daily board offers enough structure for a short routine while Practice remains available when you want additional puzzles or a different size.

The point is not to label the player with an IQ score, percentile or cognitive diagnosis. The product records only direct puzzle behavior such as whether the board was solved, whether assistance was used, moves, elapsed time and local streak history.
