V0.64 · DATE-STABLE 60 SECONDS

Daily Typing Test

One minute, one date-stable target, and a specialist typing streak that stays separate from Today’s 6. Compare your own WPM, accuracy and consistency without a global leaderboard.

What makes the Daily Typing Test different?

Daily Typing fixes the target text for the calendar date instead of giving every reload a different word stream. Two fresh browser contexts on the same date receive the same seeded target, so a replay is at least a replay of the same material. The target changes on the next date. This is useful for a daily habit because the session is predictable in length and does not depend on a server account or live content feed.

The challenge lasts 60 seconds. The page can be opened and read without losing time because the timer does not start until the first printable key. Once typing begins, the clock runs continuously. Backspace is allowed, but the accuracy calculation still remembers earlier wrong printable key attempts. Paste and drag/drop insertion are blocked.

Daily results: WPM, raw speed, accuracy and consistency

WPM is based on final correctly matched target characters, the standard five-character word, and the real elapsed time. Raw WPM counts all printable key attempts. If someone types very fast but creates many mistakes, the raw number can be much higher than the correct WPM. Showing both makes the trade-off visible instead of compressing everything into one speed result.

Accuracy is the percentage of correct printable key attempts among correct and incorrect attempts. Consistency looks at repeated live WPM samples and summarizes how steady the run was. Error count stays visible as a simple total. The game also creates a transparent local session score that weights accuracy more heavily than speed, but that score is only a game metric for local history. It is not a typing certificate, school grade or population percentile.

A specialist streak, not another Today’s 6 slot

Daily Typing has its own browser-local history. Completing today’s 60-second test records today in that specialist history and derives the current consecutive-day typing streak. Replaying the same date updates today’s result without turning one day into two streak days. The best streak is stored locally.

This daily is intentionally separate from the platform’s existing Today’s 6 contract. Typing Test is the twenty-first Practice catalog game but it is not inserted into the historical twelve-game pool used to rotate the six core Daily slots. Completing Daily Typing therefore does not add a seventh Daily Score game and does not change a Today’s 6 day record.

Use the result to choose the next practice

The most useful follow-up is not always another full minute. After the run, inspect the Problem Keys list. Those letters are built from actual expected letters you missed on this device. If a few letters have a noticeably higher local miss rate, Weak Keys mode creates a short word test that favors words containing those letters.

If accuracy was strong but the pace felt uneven, another 30 or 60-second Timed round can help you work on rhythm. If a clock makes you rush, Words mode ends after 25 or 50 words instead. Practice Text uses original short passages with normal sentence punctuation. These modes share local key history but maintain setup-specific personal bests so different test conditions are not silently compared.

When a daily result points to a skill gap

V0.144 adds a separate 18-lesson keyboarding path and Custom Text without changing the Daily Typing target. If the heatmap shows a broad row-position problem, a structured lesson can isolate that reach. If the problem appears only in your own study or work material, Custom Text can turn up to 5,000 characters into a one-off run without saving the source text itself.

Why the daily target stays simple

The default Daily target uses ordinary words without forced punctuation or number tokens. That keeps the date-to-date task focused on general keyboard rhythm and makes results easier to compare. Punctuation and numbers remain available in Unlimited Timed and Words modes when you want a more demanding setup.

There is no claim that one minute can diagnose typing technique. A single run can be affected by attention, keyboard layout, device, posture or simple familiarity with the words. The value of Daily Typing is repetition: one small measurement, one visible set of misses, and an optional follow-up practice loop.

Keep the habit lightweight

A daily typing habit does not need to become a long training session. One minute is enough to create a useful local snapshot. If the result is clean, stop there. If you notice a specific problem, use one short Weak Keys or Words round. The site stores results only in the current browser, so clearing site data or switching devices can reset the history.
