Daily Verbal Memory
Daily Verbal Memory is one date-stable 64-trial Seen-or-New stream. Every player opening the same date receives the same planned word order from the frozen V0.109 bank. It is a specialist Daily challenge with its own browser-local history and streak; it does not enter or modify Today’s 6.
The Daily rule
One word appears at a time. Press NEW if that word has not appeared earlier in the current Daily stream. Press SEEN if it has. The game evaluates the decision against the actual stream history. A repeat can only be labeled SEEN when its word appeared earlier; a first appearance can only be labeled NEW. The date determines the deterministic seed, so reopening an unfinished date does not silently swap in a different challenge.
Exactly 64 planned decisions
The Daily format uses sixty-four trials. That fixed length is long enough for the seen set to grow, yet short enough to finish as a regular daily exercise. Unlike Classic Practice, the Daily run does not end because three lives were lost. This keeps the date challenge length consistent and produces a complete hit/miss/false-alarm/correct-rejection summary for the full stream.
Why Daily is separate from Today’s 6
The platform has a frozen 2026 Today’s 6 rotation that is protected by a release hash. Specialist games added after the original rotation do not enter that sequence automatically. Daily Verbal Memory follows the same containment rule as Star Battle, Reaction Time, Aim Trainer, Dual N-Back, Stroop and Chimp Test: it has a separate specialist history and streak, but solving it does not increment Today’s 6 days or change any frozen Daily slot.
Date navigation
The Daily page allows moving backward through prior dates. Future dates are blocked. Because the date is part of the deterministic key, a previous day can be replayed against the same planned sequence. The local history records completed dates, score, response classes and average browser response time. A same-date completed state remains visible after reopening the page.
How repeats are validated
The core does not decide that a word is “seen” merely because a random flag says so. It builds the stream, tracks the most recent position of every introduced word and records a repeat lag only when the chosen word already exists in that history. The independent verifier rebuilds the state and checks every trial. If a supposedly NEW item had actually appeared, or a supposedly SEEN item had not, the release gate would fail.
Where the words come from
Daily Verbal Memory uses the same 2,048-word bank as Practice. That bank is derived locally from the project’s frozen Word Grid lexical asset rather than fetched on the day you play. The V0.109 generator checks the source asset’s SHA-256 before producing the specialist core. This keeps Daily stable even if an external dictionary site later changes or disappears.
Reading the Daily result
A hit is a repeat correctly called SEEN. A miss is a repeat incorrectly called NEW. A false alarm is a first appearance incorrectly called SEEN. A correct rejection is a first appearance correctly called NEW. Accuracy is the number of correct decisions divided by the sixty-four completed decisions. Average response time is measured by the browser from one word presentation to the response.
These are task results, not a population diagnosis. The site does not map the score to IQ, dementia risk, ADHD, school ability or a fabricated global percentile. Differences in vocabulary familiarity, English exposure, attention, display/input method and interruption can affect performance.
Specialist streak behavior
Completing today records the date in verbalMemoryStats.daily.history. Consecutive completed dates build the specialist streak, and the best specialist streak is stored locally. This history is intentionally separate from the top-level Daily completion object. That separation is part of the migration and browser QA contract so a new specialist can never accidentally rewrite the original Daily system.
Focus protection
A live run is discarded if the document becomes hidden. This is not meant as punishment; it prevents the result from quietly including time spent in another tab or with the browser backgrounded. The interruption count is stored locally so the product can distinguish completed sessions from invalidated ones. Start again when you can keep the tab active for the full stream.
Daily versus Focus 50
Focus 50 is a Practice mode with fifty trials and a user-controlled Practice seed. Daily uses sixty-four trials and a date-derived seed. Focus is better for repeated personal comparisons on a chosen Practice course. Daily is better when you want one stable challenge associated with a calendar date. Neither is added to Today’s 6.
Daily versus Long Lag
The Daily plan is derived from the Long Lag generator and then fixed to sixty-four trials, so repeat distance remains meaningful. Practice Long Lag runs for seventy-two trials and can be refreshed with another seed. The Daily stream instead prioritizes date stability. Both use the same truthful Seen/New state validation.
Local records and privacy
Completion history, streak and session details live in the browser’s V0.109 store. No sign-in is needed in this public build, and the game does not upload a word-by-word response history to a leaderboard. The preview remains intentionally available for search indexing and Hostinger deployment is enabled for the production domain.
Replay a date responsibly
Replaying an already completed date is useful for checking the interface or revisiting the same deterministic stream, but prior exposure naturally changes familiarity. The site therefore treats the Daily result as a browser-local practice record rather than evidence of a stable trait. For the most comparable first-attempt experience, use a date before memorizing its stream.
Why the Daily stream stays deterministic
A calendar challenge is only useful when the date actually identifies a stable task. V0.109 therefore does not ask a server for a random list each time the page opens. The date is converted into the same local seed, the seed selects the same ordered common-word pool, and the same repeat scheduler produces the same old/new truth values. This design also makes QA practical: the verifier can enumerate all 365 dates in 2026, rebuild every Daily stream twice, and reject the release if any date changes between identical inputs or contains a false Seen/New label.
Determinism does not mean every person receives the same score. Reading speed, language familiarity, response strategy and input device still affect the responses. It means only that the underlying sequence for a given date is stable, which is the narrow property the product can honestly guarantee.
Start Daily Verbal Memory
The same two response buttons and N/S keyboard controls are used as Practice. Complete all sixty-four decisions to record the date and update the specialist streak.
