Daily Word Grid

One validated 4×4 letter board stays fixed for the calendar date. Trace familiar main words for the clear, collect lower-frequency Bonus words, and build a browser-local specialist streak without changing Today’s 6.

One board for the date

Daily Word Grid is the repeatable daily layer of the Word Grid specialist. The board is not generated from the current clock at page load and it is not replaced when you refresh. The calendar date selects one entry from a frozen bank of 4,096 Standard 4×4 boards. Opening the same date in a fresh browser context therefore selects the same letters and the same solver-derived main and Bonus answer sets.

The frozen bank matters because a shared daily puzzle should be reproducible. Before release, each source board is exact-solved and checked for an acceptable number of familiar main words, at least one longer route and enough letter diversity to avoid flat or repetitive layouts. Daily then reuses that validated bank rather than trusting an uncontrolled random grid.

Trace words with eight-direction adjacency

A valid path begins on any tile and moves to a touching neighbor. Horizontal, vertical and diagonal moves all count. You can turn at every letter, so words may snake around the board. A tile cannot appear twice in the same word, even when the spelling contains a repeated letter. The repeated letter must come from another matching tile that can be reached legally from the current path.

Touch and pointer players can drag through the grid. Keyboard players can type letters to extend a route, Backspace to undo the last tile and Enter to submit. The game checks whether the selected cells really create that word; merely typing a dictionary entry is not enough when no legal route exists on the board.

Main words define the clear

The V0.70 lexical build contains 19,458 filtered entries derived from frozen open word sources. The first 15,000 higher-frequency usable entries are the main vocabulary. If a main word is traceable on today’s board, it counts toward completion. This keeps the clear target focused on words that are more likely to feel familiar instead of demanding every obscure dictionary possibility.

A further 4,458 accepted entries form the Bonus vocabulary. Traceable Bonus words still count as discoveries and appear in their own list, but missing them does not prevent a Daily clear. The separation preserves the fun of finding unusual words while keeping streak completion tied to a more reasonable target.

Progress is solved from the actual board

The page does not ship a loose marketing number such as “about fifty words.” When today’s board loads, the browser’s trie solver walks every legal adjacent path against the frozen vocabulary and determines the board’s actual main and Bonus sets. The progress numerator is your unique main finds; the denominator is the exact number of main words that this board contains. Re-entering a word you already found does not inflate progress.

Hints do not silently count as clean play

Daily Word Grid includes the same optional study aids as Practice. Hint chooses one remaining main answer and highlights its starting tile while revealing the word length. Tile Coach counts how many remaining main answers begin from each starting cell. Both tools are useful for learning where your scanning misses occur, but they expose extra information. Using either marks that run Assisted for the remainder of the board.

Assisted status is sticky. Turning Tile Coach back off does not convert the session to Clean. This distinction is stored with the local result so the interface does not imply that a guided clear was an unaided performance. It also prevents a hint-then-hide workflow from contaminating clean personal records.

Daily history is local and specialist-specific

Clearing today’s main list records a local Daily Word Grid result, including words found, Bonus count, score, elapsed time and whether the run was Clean. Consecutive solved dates form the Word Grid specialist streak. Past dates can be opened through the date navigation for replay, but the records remain on this browser only. There is no account, cloud synchronization, world ranking or claimed global percentile.

It does not change Today’s 6

The platform already has a frozen six-slot daily system built from twelve established rotation games. Word Grid is intentionally outside those slots. Solving Daily Word Grid does not add a seventh daily score card, modify the 6,000-point total or alter the 2026 Today’s 6 lineup. It is an optional specialist habit, like other standalone Daily specialist modes.

How to improve your daily clear rate

On a fresh board, scan short high-frequency patterns first. Look around vowels for common consonant pairs, then around flexible letters that have many neighbors. Finding several short words gives you a mental map of productive routes. After that, switch your attention to the remaining length counts. If longer words remain, search for routes that pass through central cells with many exits rather than repeatedly checking an isolated corner.

When stuck, rotate your scanning order instead of guessing random strings. Read every row, column and diagonal as a starting prompt, then allow the path to turn. Try common endings backward from their last letter as well as forward from the first. Because diagonal moves are legal, the board rewards spatial pattern recognition rather than ordinary left-to-right reading. Save Hint or Tile Coach for after your own scan if you want the tools to teach you which area you overlooked.

Unlimited Practice when one daily board is not enough

The daily board is deliberately finite. After you clear it—or if you simply want a different shape—open the full Word Grid Game. Practice adds 3×3 Express, untimed 4×4 Zen, three-minute Sprint and 5×5 Big Board modes drawn from the larger 6,144-board frozen bank. Practice never changes the Daily Word Grid streak or Today’s 6 score.
