Japanese Word Game
Turn beginner Japanese vocabulary into short game rounds: retrieve meanings, type readings, reverse the direction from English, race a one-minute Sprint, then review the words you actually missed. The same engine powers every mode, so this page is a distinct entry to the product rather than a copied quiz with renamed headings.
Why use more than flashcards?
A game can change the retrieval direction and still stay honest about what it measures.
Seeing Japanese and recognizing an English definition is easier than producing a reading or starting from an English concept. The game rotates those tasks instead of assigning one vague “mastery” percentage. Meaning rounds are fast recognition, Reading rounds require a typed response, and Reverse rounds force you to retrieve the Japanese form from the meaning.
Each fixed round has ten prompts. First-attempt accuracy drives the 0–1,000 game score. If the first response is wrong, the word enters Weak Review before a clean retry is offered. That makes the second chance instructional without erasing the original miss.
Theme practice without doorway pages
Configuration belongs inside the game, not in hundreds of nearly identical URLs.
The theme selector includes all 15 launch themes in one application. You can focus on Food & Drink, Travel, Family, Common Verbs, Descriptions and the other groups without creating a separate indexed page for every combination. The selected theme also defines Sprint personal-best identity, so a 20-word focused Sprint is not compared with an all-300-word Sprint.
This release intentionally adds only two focused acquisition pages for Japanese vocabulary. It does not generate one page per word, theme, review stage, timer or score configuration.
Reading support for kana and romaji
Typed Reading accepts the written response a beginner is most likely to have available.
Reading mode only selects items whose written form differs from the reading, so a kana-only word is not presented as a fake “reading challenge” where the answer is already visible. You can type the kana reading directly or common romaji. The engine normalizes hiragana and katakana and handles standard combinations such as long vowels, small っ and yōon.
Irregular or alternate beginner readings can carry explicit aliases in the data rather than being accepted through fuzzy matching. The goal is to recognize legitimate variants without turning spelling into an anything-goes answer check.
A path from Kana into real words
The existing Kana specialist becomes a foundation rather than an isolated feature.
If hiragana or katakana still feels slow, the Learn hub links back to the Kana game for row-level recall, reverse recognition, Sprint and Weak Kana. Once the scripts are comfortable, Japanese Vocabulary adds actual word meaning and kanji readings. The two specialists keep separate stats and separate Daily streaks so progress in one is never mislabeled as progress in the other.
Future Japanese expansion can add deeper vocabulary, kanji or sentence mechanics only when the content quality is ready. V0.57 does not claim that one 300-word bank represents complete Japanese proficiency.
Beginner practice, not a certification list.
This curated 300-word game bank is not an official JLPT vocabulary list. It is a transparent beginner practice set organized around everyday themes, with local game history rather than a claimed proficiency score.
