Rules & quick reference
THE DECK

Only 24 cards

Euchre uses 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace in each suit. Four players receive five cards each; four cards remain in the kitty and the first is turned face up for the first bidding round.

THE BOWERS

Two Jacks outrank everything

The Jack of trump is the right bower and the highest card. The Jack of the same color is the left bower, becomes trump for the entire hand, and is second-highest. Follow-suit rules use this effective suit.

BIDDING

Order up or call another suit

In round one, players may order the turned suit as trump. If everyone passes, round two allows any other suit. This version uses stick-the-dealer so the dealer must name trump rather than redeal.

GOING ALONE

Leave your partner out for a hand

A maker may go alone. The maker’s partner sits out all five tricks. A lone player who wins all five tricks earns 4 points; a normal sweep earns 2.

SCORING

Three tricks make the contract

Makers score 1 point for three or four tricks and 2 for a five-trick sweep. If they take fewer than three, the defenders euchre them for 2 points. Match mode races to 10.
