Bulb-first fill
Mercury is always a continuous prefix. Filling a segment pulls every segment back to the bulb with it; marking a segment empty rules out everything toward the tip.

If a row or column already has its clue count, every open cell is empty. If the remaining open cells exactly equal the deficit, they all fill.
Row and column counts squeeze each thermometer’s possible fill level. When only one level remains, every segment on that thermometer is forced.
