Decimal Mental Math
Practice decimal addition and subtraction mentally with one-decimal-place values, immediate feedback, difficulty controls and an optional Adaptive Ladder.
Start Decimal Mental Math
This route opens the real Mental Math engine with the Decimals skill locked in. Standard rounds use one-decimal-place addition and subtraction so the arithmetic remains mental while still requiring place-value control.
How decimal mental math works
Every generated problem uses one-decimal-place values and a deterministic Practice seed. You type the answer instead of choosing from distractors, so a correct result requires actually carrying the decimal place through the calculation. Standard play uses ten questions; Easy keeps the numbers smaller, while Hard expands the range.
The engine rounds generated values to one decimal place before it builds the question and compares numeric answers rather than formatted strings. That means an answer such as 6.5 is accepted as 6.5 without requiring an unnecessary trailing zero. The goal is arithmetic fluency, not formatting trivia.
- Add and subtract one-decimal-place values.
- Use a decimal keyboard on supported mobile devices.
- Receive the exact answer immediately after a miss.
- Repeat with a new deterministic Practice seed.
Use Decimals inside Adaptive Ladder
Decimals is not a separate toy engine. The same skill can be selected inside the 20-question Adaptive Ladder. Ladder starts at a transparent level based on the chosen Easy, Standard or Hard entry point, raises one level after two consecutive correct answers and lowers one level after a miss.
When Decimals is selected, the Ladder keeps the skill fixed while changing the numerical range as the level moves. When Mixed is selected, decimals become one of several rule families introduced as the level grows. The displayed level is a game difficulty state only; it is not an IQ score, percentile or diagnostic measure.
- 20 questions per Ladder run.
- Two correct in a row raises one level.
- One miss lowers one level.
- Local bests are saved only for the same setup.
Why this is a distinct practice intent
Decimal arithmetic is meaningfully different from whole-number addition because place value has to stay aligned mentally. A focused decimal route is therefore backed by actual Decimal question generation rather than a headline that opens generic mixed arithmetic.
This page does not create separate URLs for every difficulty, timer or decimal range. The controls inside the real game handle those variations, which keeps the discovery layer aligned with product behavior instead of multiplying doorway pages.
- Actual Decimals generator.
- Same Weak Facts system for problems you miss.
- Same Practice history as other Mental Math modes.
Keep going
Focused Practice stays separate from Today’s 6, so you can repeat this exact arithmetic skill without changing the Daily Score. When you want broader variety, switch to Adaptive Ladder or another focused challenge instead of relying on a renamed duplicate page.
