Order of Operations Practice
Practice order of operations mentally with multiplication, addition, subtraction and parentheses, then use the same skill in a transparent Adaptive Ladder.
Start Order of Operations Practice
This focused route opens the real Mental Math engine with Order of Operations selected. Questions are generated so multiplication and grouping must be handled in the intended order before the final addition or subtraction.
How the questions are built
Easy questions use a short expression such as addition plus multiplication, which requires multiplication to be resolved before the addition. Standard questions introduce parentheses so the grouped addition must be completed before multiplication. Hard questions combine multiplication with addition and subtraction in the same expression.
Every question is generated from integer components and the intended answer is computed by the engine at generation time. There are no multiple-choice shortcuts: type the numeric result and press Enter. A miss reveals the exact intended answer and is eligible for the local Weak Facts queue.
- Easy: multiplication before addition.
- Standard: parentheses plus multiplication.
- Hard: mixed multiplication, addition and subtraction.
- Exact numeric answer entry.
Adaptive Ladder with one visible rule
Order of Operations can also be selected in the Practice-only Adaptive Ladder. The Ladder contains twenty questions. It starts from Level 1, 3 or 5 depending on the chosen Easy, Standard or Hard entry point; two consecutive correct answers raise the level by one, and a miss lowers it by one.
The rules are deliberately visible so the player can understand why the next item changed. Local Ladder bests compare only runs using the same difficulty and skill setup. A Peak Level result describes this game’s internal difficulty path and must not be interpreted as a standardized mathematical ability score.
- Levels 1–8 are explicit game difficulty.
- Twenty questions, not an endless opaque algorithm.
- Peak level, accuracy and streak are shown separately.
- No percentile or cognitive claim.
Why a focused order-of-operations route is useful
Order of operations has a distinct user goal: keeping precedence and grouping straight while calculating without a calculator. The focused route therefore opens `skill=order` directly rather than making a visitor hunt through a generic mixed mode.
The site still avoids thin variants. There are no separate pages for Level 1, Level 8, sixty seconds or each expression shape. Those are settings inside one tested engine, while this landing represents the broader, genuinely distinct order-of-operations practice intent.
- Real generated expressions.
- Works in ten-question rounds and Adaptive Ladder.
- Misses can enter Weak Facts for later review.
Keep going
Focused Practice stays separate from Today’s 6, so you can repeat this exact arithmetic skill without changing the Daily Score. When you want broader variety, switch to Adaptive Ladder or another focused challenge instead of relying on a renamed duplicate page.
