Play Minesweeper Online
Clear a classic numbered minefield in your browser with a modern practice loop around it. Choose Beginner 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate 16×16 with 40 mines, or Expert 30×16 with 99 mines. Practice protects the first square you reveal and the eight cells around it, then keeps regenerating candidate layouts until the built-in deduction solver can finish the entire board without a guess.
How Minesweeper works
Every revealed number tells you exactly how many mines touch that square, including diagonals. If a 1 already touches one flagged square, its other covered neighbors are safe. If a 2 has exactly two covered neighbors left and no adjacent flags, both covered cells must be mines. Those small local facts combine into longer chains of deduction as a board opens.
Desktop players can right-click to flag. Touch players do not have to depend on a hidden long-press gesture: the board has explicit Reveal and Flag tools. Arrow keys move keyboard focus, Enter or Space reveals, F flags, C chords a revealed number, and H asks for a Logic Hint.
Chording and faster clears
When the number of adjacent flags matches a revealed clue, activate that clue again to chord it. Chording opens every other covered neighbor in one action. It is powerful, but the flags have to be correct: a wrong flag can make a chord open a real mine. That keeps the familiar risk-and-deduction rhythm of classic Minesweeper while rewarding careful board reading.
The optional no-flag challenge removes flag placement entirely for players who want to keep mine locations mentally. Flag and no-flag personal bests are stored separately so two different styles are not compared as if they were the same task.
Why these Practice boards do not require guessing
A first-click-safe board is not automatically a fair logic board. A random layout can still end in a 50/50 choice where the visible clues do not determine which covered square contains a mine. This Practice mode goes further. After your first reveal selects the protected start area, the browser places mines from a deterministic seed and runs an independent deduction process over the resulting clue field. The candidate is discarded if that process stalls before every safe square can be proven.
The verifier uses ordinary clue rules first and then subset reasoning between neighboring clue constraints. It never asks the generator for the hidden answer when deciding that a covered square is safe or mined. The actual mine map is used only to reject a candidate if the deduction path is inconsistent. Because generation happens from your chosen first square, every accepted Practice board is verified from the opening you actually made rather than from a convenient start somewhere else on the grid.
No-guess does not mean every move is obvious. Expert boards can still have dense frontiers where several clues must be compared. The Logic Hint button exists for learning: it highlights one move the same deduction system can justify and explains why it is forced. Asking for a hint keeps the win, but the run no longer qualifies for a clean personal best.
Daily Minesweeper
Daily mode uses the same three standard difficulty sizes, but it fixes both the date seed and the protected starting square. That matters because a Practice board depends on where you make the first reveal. Fixing the Daily opening makes the Beginner, Intermediate and Expert board identities reproducible for that date. Solving any Daily difficulty keeps the specialist Daily streak active; clearing all three finishes the day’s three-board set.
Daily Minesweeper is deliberately separate from the platform’s Today’s 6. It does not replace a Daily slot or alter the historical six-game rotation.
What 3BV means here
3BV is a board-complexity measure commonly used by serious Minesweeper players. In simple terms, it counts the independent opening work represented by zero regions plus numbered cells that are not automatically exposed by those zero openings. The game reports the board’s 3BV, your 3BV per second, and a local efficiency value based on 3BV per recorded board action.
Those metrics are for comparing your own browser sessions. This site does not claim that a local result is a world ranking, percentile, or official competitive record. Global leaderboards have their own replay validation, rule sets and click-count conventions.
Autosave without an account
After the first reveal, the generated mine layout, revealed cells, flags, elapsed time, assists and setup are stored locally in your browser. Reopening the same Practice seed and start can resume that exact board. Daily boards use the date and difficulty as their local resume key. Nothing here requires a login, server profile, database or paid API.
If you want a different puzzle, Fresh board creates a new Practice seed. Restart keeps the same minefield so you can inspect a mistake, but restarted runs do not count as clean personal bests because you have already seen part of the board.
Train the deduction patterns directly
The V0.146 Pattern Academy adds 88 verified states across direct safe/mine moves plus reduced 1–1 and 1–2 families, with a separate local Efficiency Lab for 3BV/s, action efficiency and chord yield.
