Start a verified 30-second round

Choose how many large numbers you want, reveal six cards and race toward an exact target. Every generated round stores a clean solution using positive whole-number intermediate results, so you are never being timed against an impossible target.

How the six-number challenge works

Each round gives you six number cards and a target from 100 to 999. Select one card, choose addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, then select another card to merge the pair into a new result. A card can be used only once because every merge replaces the two source cards with the value you created.

Unlike the four-card Daily Number puzzle, Target 6 does not require you to use every starting card. You may declare any current card as your result, which matches the strategic idea of building a useful partial expression and stopping when you have reached the target or the closest value you can find.

Large numbers and clean arithmetic

The Practice controls let you choose zero, one, two, three or four large cards. Large cards come from 25, 50, 75 and 100; the remaining places are drawn from a small-number pool containing two copies of each number from 1 through 10. The game never uses the same large card twice and never exceeds the two-copy small-number supply.

Subtraction must stay positive and division must produce a whole number. Fractions, zero or negative intermediate results are rejected. Those constraints keep the mental arithmetic readable and make the stored verification route useful as a learning example after the round.

Why the target is always reachable

The browser does not simply roll a random three-digit number and hope it can be made. It first selects the six cards, constructs a valid positive-integer arithmetic route from those exact cards and accepts the puzzle only when that route lands between 100 and 999. The generated route is retained as the verified solution shown after the round. Release QA then stress-tests the same generator across large-number settings and independently checks exact reachability with a separate solver.

30 seconds, 60 seconds or Zen

The default challenge is thirty seconds. A sixty-second option gives more planning time, while Zen removes the countdown completely. The cards and target stay hidden until you press Start so reading the puzzle does not consume the timer before you are ready.

When time expires, arithmetic operations stop and the closest current card is selected. You can submit that value or choose another card you created. Exact matches score 1,000 points, results within five score 700, results within ten score 500, and values farther away score zero. These bands are shown as explicit game rules rather than hidden performance rankings.

Fresh rounds and local progress

Fresh round creates another deterministic Practice seed while keeping your selected timer and large-number count. Local statistics record only your own Target 6 sessions: games played, exact-hit rate and best exact time. There is no population percentile, IQ estimate or claim that one arithmetic result measures general intelligence.

How this differs from Daily Number

Daily Number remains the compact four-card puzzle used inside Today's 6. It requires all four numbers and gives three complete attempts plus optional verified Route Hints. Target 6 is a separate Practice workflow with six cards, a three-digit target, optional time pressure and close-result scoring. Keeping both formats avoids changing historical Daily results while still offering a deeper arithmetic-planning game.

Independent browser implementation

This is an independently developed arithmetic game inspired by the familiar six-number target format. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the television programme or its owners. No show branding, answer schedule, audio, video or copyrighted programme material is used.

Use the four-card Target Number Puzzle when you want a smaller exact-route problem, or switch to Mental Math when you want rapid arithmetic facts instead of expression planning.
