Countries of the World Quiz
How many countries can you name from memory? Type countries one by one and watch the world map fill until you complete the 195-country core or choose to reveal what remains.
Start naming countries of the world
This is not a multiple-choice list. The Geography engine accepts a country only when you can produce its name yourself, then marks that country on the map. Common English aliases such as USA, UK, Czech Republic, Ivory Coast and East Timor are accepted without requiring one exact phrasing.
Free recall instead of recognition
Multiple-choice questions can tell you that the right answer looks familiar without proving you could retrieve it on your own. In this mode the answer box starts empty. You supply each country name from memory, so the final Found count reflects active recall rather than recognition among options.
A map that fills as you remember
Every accepted country is highlighted on the world map immediately. That creates a second signal beyond the text list: empty areas show where your recall is still weak. Large gaps may reveal an entire region you have not covered yet, while one isolated empty country can point to a more specific memory gap.
What counts as the 195-country core
The practice set uses 193 United Nations member states plus the Holy See and the State of Palestine. The product treats that as a transparent quiz scope rather than claiming there is only one possible political definition of “country.” Region labels are used as practical study filters, not as statements about political affiliation.
Common names and aliases
You should not lose a correct memory because you typed a widely used alternate English name. The local data includes common aliases for cases such as United States/USA, United Kingdom/UK, Czechia/Czech Republic, Timor-Leste/East Timor, Côte d’Ivoire/Ivory Coast and several other naming variants. Diacritics and simple punctuation differences are normalized before matching.
No countdown pressure
There is no hidden speed penalty and no forced timer cutoff. Elapsed time is shown so you can compare sessions if you want, but the core goal is coverage. The status area reports Found, Remaining and Accuracy, and Give up is always visible when you would rather reveal the unfinished countries than keep guessing.
Use regions when full-world recall is too large
The same Practice controls can limit the country bank to Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America or Oceania. A regional naming session uses the same fill-on-map behavior but only expects countries in that selected pool, which is useful before attempting all 195 in one sitting.
