Practice now has real replay depth: switch answer pools, turn on Hard mode, start a Fresh word instantly, track wins and guess distribution on this device, or share the tile pattern without revealing the answer.

How the six-guess word game works

Each round hides one curated five-letter answer. Type any accepted five-letter English guess and the board marks every letter after submission. Exact-position letters use the strongest positive state, letters that belong elsewhere in the answer use the near state, and letters that are not available in that position are muted. The duplicate-letter logic consumes matches only once, so a guess with repeated letters does not invent extra clues.

You have six submitted guesses. Invalid words do not consume a turn, and the on-screen keyboard keeps the strongest clue seen for every letter. Keyboard entry, Backspace and Enter work alongside the touch keyboard. High-contrast mode changes the two positive clue colors for players who prefer a blue/orange distinction.

Unlimited Practice without weakening the Daily game

The rotating Daily Word inside Today's 6 still keeps its original one-result-per-date contract. Unlimited Practice is separate: finishing a Practice round never changes today's 6, your 6,000-point Daily Score, or the archived Daily result. Press Fresh word after a solve or loss and the game generates another deterministic Practice answer from a new local seed.

Practice can draw from four real answer pools. Mixed uses all 299 curated answers. Easy uses a 100-answer early pool, Standard uses a separate 100-answer middle pool, and Hard uses the remaining 99 answers. These controls change the actual candidate answers rather than relabeling the same random game.

Hard mode, Give up and honest scoring

Hard mode requires information you have already uncovered to remain in later guesses. Exact-position letters must stay fixed, while discovered present letters must continue to appear. This makes the same answer meaningfully stricter without changing the dictionary. If you are stuck in Practice, Give up reveals the answer and records a loss instead of pretending the round was solved.

A normal solve scores most for accuracy and then rewards fewer guesses: a first-guess solve is 1,000 points and later solves step down while still preserving a meaningful completion score. A six-guess miss keeps the established low completion score; an explicit Practice Give up records zero. The score is local game feedback, not a claim about global ranking or intelligence.

Local stats that come from your own rounds

Unlimited Practice tracks played rounds, win rate, current win streak, best win streak, and a 1-through-6 guess distribution. The numbers are stored in this browser only. There is no fabricated percentile, population comparison or server leaderboard. Standalone Daily Five-Letter Word rounds are kept out of the unlimited Practice distribution so repeated Daily replays cannot inflate the Practice profile.

Share the pattern, not the answer

After a Practice result you can share a compact tile grid. The text includes the mode, number of guesses and whether Hard mode was active, but it does not include the hidden word. That preserves the puzzle for anyone receiving the result. If native device sharing is unavailable, the same spoiler-free text can be copied.

Want one shared word for the date?

The separate Daily Five-Letter Word uses the same rules but chooses one Mixed-pool word from the local calendar date. It is a standalone Practice ritual and does not add a seventh game to Today's 6. That distinction lets you keep a predictable daily word challenge while the main daily set continues to rotate Word, Anagram and Word Search inside the word pillar.
